Over the past year, MAHDC has worked with our preservation partners to develop the first part of a two-tiered training and educational program for HPCs. We are pleased to report that the tutorial is now complete and can be accessed here.

The tutorial is organized into eight modules and covers a variety of topics, from legal and design issues to project review. A reference manual serves as a companion piece and provides additional information on various topics covered in the tutorial. We hired the preservation consulting firm Winter and Company to carry forth our vision for this project. Representatives from the Maryland Historical Trust, Preservation Maryland, the National Trust for Historic Preservation, as well as a team of commissioners and staff of commissions provided considerable input and insight during development. While the training documents are primarily geared towards HPCs and staff to commissions, code officers, elected officials, municipal staff members from planning departments may also benefit from the training.
