Below are just some of the organizations and resources dedicated to documenting and preserving Maryland's rich history.

• Preservation Maryland
  Preservation Maryland is the state's oldest historic preservation organization. Founded in 1931 as the Society for the Preservation of Maryland Antiquities, Preservation Maryland is dedicated to preserving Maryland's historic buildings, neighborhoods, landscapes, and archaeological sites through outreach, funding, and advocacy.
• National Alliance of Preservation Commissions (NAPC)
  The NAPC is the only organization devoted solely to representing the nation's preservation design review commissions. NAPC provides technical support and manages an information network to help local commissions accomplish their preservation objectives. The Alliance also serves as an advocate at federal, state and local levels of government to promote policies and programs that support preservation commission efforts.
• Maryland Historical Trust
  The Maryland Historical Trust (Trust) is a state agency dedicated to preserving and interpreting the legacy of Maryland’s past.  Through research, conservation and education, the Trust assists the people of Maryland in understanding their historical and cultural heritage.  The Trust is an agency of the Maryland Department of Planning and serves as Maryland’s State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) pursuant to the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966.
• National Park Service: Guidelines for Preserving, Rehabilitating, Restoring, and Reconstructing
  The Standards are neither technical nor prescriptive, but are intended to promote responsible preservation practices that help protect our Nation's irreplaceable cultural resources. For example, they cannot, in and of themselves, be used to make essential decisions about which features of the historic building should be saved and which can be changed. But once a treatment is selected, the Standards provide philosophical consistency to the work.
• Maryland HPC's
   The Maryland HPCs group is a forum for HPC commissioners and staff to share information and questions with their colleagues.
